United to win: Sweden deploys Patriot systems to eastern Poland to protect arms hub for Ukraine

The deployment will begin in December.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson stated that military forces will use both Patriot systems and Gripen fighter jets to safeguard the Alliance's logistics hub.

At the same time, Kristersson did not specify how many Patriot systems Sweden plans to send to Poland.

Background

It is worth adding that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte recently stated that Europe must prepare for systematic Russian sabotage, arson, and hybrid attacks. Meanwhile, allies should remain calm and continue supporting Ukraine.

"We see Russia testing us across Europe. We must be prepared for Russia's campaign of hostile actions against allies to continue. We all must remain vigilant and ready to respond," Rutte stressed.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten supported this position, emphasizing that Europe will not yield to intimidation and that their countries are already boosting intelligence cooperation to unprecedented levels.

It is worth mentioning that Poland stands ready to consider building a plant on its territory to produce missiles for Patriot systems if Ukraine secures the relevant license from the US. The Polish Ministry of Defense noted that such production could sit on secure territory.
