"Russian Houses" pose a threat to national security: Ukraine's FM calls on governments worldwide
The minister warned that Russia is waging a global battle for people's minds through an extensive network of tools and channels, including Rossotrudnichestvo and the so-called Russian Houses ('Russkiy Dom') cultural centers. According to him, they effectively serve as tools of disinformation, destabilization, and espionage.
"We commend the measures the authorities took across Europe to block these networks including Germany, where Russian House was closed yesterday in Berlin after years of malign influence,"Sybiha wrote.
According to him, our common European home is no place for 'Russian Houses' that spread military propaganda and actively work to undermine peace in Europe. However, some of these disinformation centers continue to operate in at least seven European countries, the minister said.
"Ukraine has officially addressed governments across the globe to recognize the threat for their national security posed by this network. We provided arguments for limiting their operations and closing them entirely," the minister wrote.
As previously reported, Germany officially accused Russia of involvement in an incident at Leipzig Airport in early August, when a drone carrying explosives struck a Ukrainian aircraft but did not detonate. The German government announced its decision to close the Russian consulate general in Bonn by September 18, 2026. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said the decision followed an investigation by German intelligence services that established a link between the Leipzig incident and Russian intelligence agencies.
Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called the accusations of Russia's involvement in the explosive-laden drone found near a Ukrainian aircraft in Leipzig "the beginning of a real war."
