IMF starts new mission in Ukraine to discuss reforms and 2027 budget

Background
The IMF Executive Board approved the new EFF program on February 26. It covers 2026-2029 and takes into account the current macroeconomic and security challenges Ukraine faces amid the full-scale war. It replaced the previous program, which had been in place since March 2023.
The total financing under the program stands at 8.1 billion US dollars, of which the first tranche of 1.5 billion US dollars has already been transferred to Ukraine's state budget.
Later, on July 23, Ukraine received a second tranche of about 690 million US dollars from the International Monetary Fund.
The EFF program remains a key element in supporting the country's macrofinancial stability. It sends an important signal to international partners about Ukraine's consistency in implementing reforms and ensuring responsible public finance management.
One of the central areas of cooperation with the IMF is the implementation of structural reforms needed for effective postwar recovery and Ukraine's further progress toward membership in the European Union. These include strengthening fiscal institutions and tax administration, improving governance systems and anti-corruption policy, developing financial and market infrastructure to attract private capital for the country's reconstruction, and further developing a market economy.
