One Of Russia’s Largest Oil Refineries And Yeysk Airfield Hit By Ukraine’s Defense Forces
Overnight into today, August 30, Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck an oil refinery in Kirishi, Leningrad region. The strikes on the refinery were confirmed by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the company Fire Point, UATV English reports.
A fire was recorded in the industrial zone of the Kirishinefteorgsintez oil refinery. This refinery is the second-largest in Russia and the largest in the country’s northwest, with a processing capacity of around 20 million tons of oil per year.
The plant produces gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel, fuel oil, and other petroleum products, and is actively involved in supplying the needs of Russia’s armed forces.
This is not the first time Ukrainian forces have struck the Kirishi refinery — the facility previously halted operations in May following a similar attack. In addition, a storage, preparation, and launch site for strike UAVs was hit in Millerovo, Rostov region, with a fire recorded, while in Yeysk, Krasnodar Krai, the “Yeysk” military airfield was struck, also sparking a fire on the facility’s grounds.
Meanwhile, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted the effective work of Ukrainian long-range assets over the past week, including strikes on facilities in Bashkortostan and Arkhangelsk region.
He emphasized that Russia must feel the consequences of the war it unleashed every day, and that the Defense Forces’ actions must be reinforced by economic pressure from allies and partners.
“It’s important that our long-range impact be complemented by new sanctions steps from partners against Russian military infrastructure. The vast majority of the assets the aggressor uses to terrorize Ukrainian cities and communities simply cannot function without thousands upon thousands of foreign components, chemicals, and machine tools. We’re constantly passing partners details on Russian sanctions evasion schemes,” the head of state summarized.
As previously reported, Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck a Russian “Pantsir-S1” anti-aircraft missile-and-gun system in Bryansk region, Russia.
