Poland has the capacity to produce PAC-3 missiles for Patriot and is ready to involve Ukraine in the project
According to the Polish official, the country has the necessary production capabilities and expertise to participate in PAC-3 manufacturing. Poland also considers establishing such production in Europe important for strengthening the continent's security.
"Poland is one of the countries that has declared its capability and readiness to produce PAC-3 in Poland… We see the production of PAC-3 interceptors in Europe as something important that strengthens European security," Zalewski said.
He noted that moving part of interceptor production outside the United States could also be important for Washington. According to him, there is currently a significant shortage of industrial capacity to manufacture such missiles.
Poland is also ready to consider various partnership options, including a joint project with Ukraine. Warsaw does not aim to compete with other countries that may join the production effort.
"We do not want to compete with Ukrainians, Germans, or anyone else. So if it is possible to create some form of cooperation between companies and between countries, that would be good," the Polish minister said in response to a question from European Pravda.
Zalewski stressed that the future production should serve not only NATO's needs but primarily help Ukraine.
He emphasized that Poland already has the necessary industrial base and expertise and would like to use them in the project. The cooperation could involve several countries at once.
"It is important that we have our own capabilities and expertise, and we would like to contribute to this production. And if it turns out that it will be together with Ukrainians, or Germans, or Ukrainians and Germans – that is good. Because we do not want to compete; we want to strengthen our security," Zalewski said.
Poland is currently discussing the possibility of implementing such a project with Lockheed Martin, the US manufacturer of Patriot systems, as well as representatives of the US administration.
"We expect, on the one hand, industrial solutions, and on the other hand, political decisions," the Polish official added.
As Rubryka reported, in July, Poland proposed that the United States establish a trilateral production line for Patriot air defense missiles with Ukraine's participation. Warsaw proposed locating the production site in Poland to ensure the safety of the manufacturing process.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that Ukraine would receive a new US aid package, including additional PAC-3 interceptor missiles for Patriot systems.
At the same time, Zelenskyy said Ukraine needs a winter ballistic missile defense package. According to him, strengthening the country's air defenses would require at least 300 Patriot missiles.
