Every generation of the Ukrainian people must always remember and honor the life of every warrior, every hero, given on the battlefield for the sake of our country and freedom," the President wrote on social media.
Zelenskyi emphasized that Ukrainians are proud of their warriors and grateful to all the defenders of Ukraine — both those currently defending the country and those who gave their lives for it.
"Eternal gratitude to all Ukrainian heroes who defended our land, our people, and our right to be free. May the memory of all Ukrainian heroes who fought and gave their lives so that Ukraine could continue to live be blessed," Zelenskyi added.

August 29 marks Ukraine's Day of Remembrance of Defenders of Ukraine, honoring those who died fighting for the country's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
The Day of Remembrance of Defenders of Ukraine was established by Presidential Decree No. 621 of August 23, 2019. It was introduced to commemorate the heroism of service members and volunteers who gave their lives for Ukraine.
As reported, on August 29, a central event marking the nationwide minute of silence was held at Independence Square in Kyiv. The event was dedicated to honoring fallen Ukrainian defenders.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi signed a law establishing a nationwide minute of silence at 9 a.m.
The nationwide minute of silence is held every day at 9 a.m.
Since 2025, the beginning of the minute of silence in the capital has been announced through public address systems on Khreshchatyk Street and Independence Square, at 19 Kyiv Metro stations, and on public transport where audio broadcasting is technically available. Notifications are also sent through the Kyiv Digital mobile app.
