European Legion with Ukrainian veterans after the war: Polish FM puts forward proposal

According to Sikorski, Europe should strengthen its own security as the United States shifts more of its attention toward the Indo-Pacific region.

Sikorski proposed creating a "European Legion" — a permanent force made up of experienced military personnel. It could, in particular, include Ukrainian veterans after the end of the war with Russia.

At the same time, the Polish minister stressed that such a structure should not replace NATO.

"Europe has to take responsibility for its own security. We cannot call Washington every time there is a fire in our backyard — whether it is a conventional threat or Moscow using migration flows from Africa and the Middle East against the EU," he said.

Sikorski believes Europe needs to strengthen its defense capabilities in response to Russia's hybrid attacks. These include:

The Polish foreign minister also said that lasting peace is impossible without Ukraine's participation. He called for Kyiv and key European countries to have seats at the negotiating table.

As Rubryka reported, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said the day before that Poland plans to further expand and modernize its armed forces. According to him, the country's military strength should become one of the key factors in the security of the entire region.

What is known about the Russian missile falling in Poland

As reported, on the night of July 30, following a massive Russian air attack on Ukraine, Polish authorities discovered the crash site of an unidentified aerial object in the village of Tarnawa-Kolonia in the Lublin Voivodeship. A crater about 10 meters in diameter and up to 5 meters deep was formed at the site, while debris was scattered across an area of approximately 200 meters.

Polish law enforcement launched an investigation into the creation of a threat of an aviation disaster, while military personnel, police officers and prosecutors were involved in examining the site. According to preliminary assessments by Polish authorities, a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile may have fallen on Polish territory.

Ukraine officially offered Poland assistance in examining the crash site, as Ukrainian specialists have extensive experience dealing with similar incidents.

Commenting on the Russian missile crash in the Lublin Voivodeship, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stressed the importance of further cooperation with Ukraine in air defense, emphasizing that it directly affects the security of both countries.
