NATO secretary general reveals what he discussed with Zelenskyy in Brussels
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has revealed the topics he discussed with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy when the latter arrived in Brussels.
On the morning of 18 June, Rutte said that he had met with the Ukrainian president after Zelenskyy's arrival in Belgium the previous day. Journalists then asked the NATO secretary general to share what they had discussed during the meeting.
Rutte said ahead of a meeting of NATO defence ministers that they had spoken about the issues they "always discuss", particularly the war.
"Ukraine is really doing well. We see the reports coming in of how many Russian losses there are each month… And then of course, how we can help Ukraine to have the weapon systems, the air defence systems," he said.
Rutte noted that Zelenskyy was "in a good place".
"He just came back from the G7 [summit – ed.]. I think it was a very good meeting," he added.
Following the G7 summit, US President Donald Trump said that he had had "very good talks" with both Russian ruler Vladimir Putin and Zelenskyy, stating that both leaders want to end the war but do not know how.
Trump also stated that he is considering reinstating sanctions on Russian oil following the temporary exemption that had been introduced amid soaring global energy prices caused by the conflict with Iran.
Trump further pledged to consider Ukraine's request for licences to produce air defence systems.
