Media: Zelenskyy, Trump and Macron have held meeting on G7 sidelines
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, US President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron held a trilateral meeting on 16 June on the sidelines of the G7 summit in France.
As reported by The Kyiv Independent, this was Zelenskyy and Trump's first face-to-face meeting in almost four months.
The three leaders are now taking part in a joint working session with other G7 leaders, where Russia's war against Ukraine is the central topic of discussion.
The Guardian reported that the other leaders had to wait almost an hour before Zelenskyy, Macron and Trump entered the room.
The meeting comes as Ukraine steps up pressure on Russia to hold direct talks between Putin and Zelenskyy.
US-mediated peace talks have effectively been frozen since February, when Washington's attention shifted to the war with Iran.
Macron also reportedly held a brief bilateral meeting with Zelenskyy before the main session of the G7 summit.
The Guardian reported earlier that Macron asked Zelenskyy "You have a bilateral thing organised … with President Trump?" before offering to "arrange this".
On arriving in France for the G7 summit, Trump said that following his conversations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian ruler Vladimir Putin, he believes there may be an opportunity to "do something" to end the war in Ukraine.
