The Times: Reduction of Moscow parade undermined Vladimir Putin’s authority

The May 9 celebrations in Moscow became clear evidence of the Kremlin’s vulnerability to Ukrainian attacks, The Times reports, according to UATV English.

As the publication notes, for Putin, “Victory Day” is, firstly, a political event. While the West sought to isolate Russia, a grandstand filled with presidents and prime ministers traditionally served as a powerful signal that Moscow remains a global player. The event was also used to convince citizens that the invasion of Ukraine is still proceeding according to plan.

That is why the decision to sharply reduce the parade and the list of invited guests due to fears of Ukrainian attacks dealt a blow to the Russian leader’s authority and influence. The absence of military equipment on Red Square also undermined claims that the war against Ukraine is progressing successfully.

As previously reported, The Wall Street Journal noted that the May 9 parade in Moscow demonstrated that Ukraine is turning the tide of the war.
