Ukraine plans to complete FP-9 ballistic missile development this fall, with range reaching Moscow — Zelenskyi

Ukraine is developing the new extended-range FP-9 ballistic missile. According to Zelenskyi, its development is expected to reach readiness this autumn.

The FP-9 is intended to be a longer-range version of Ukraine's FP-7 missile. Zelenskyi previously reported that the FP-7 had been used in combat for the first time. According to Reuters, its range is around 200 kilometers.

The new FP-9 is designed to have a significantly longer range — enough to reach targets in the Moscow area. At the same time, Zelenskyi noted that large-scale production of Ukrainian ballistic missiles depends not only on Ukraine, as their manufacture requires certain components from other countries.

The development of Ukraine's own long-range missiles is taking place amid intensified Russian missile and drone attacks and Ukraine's efforts to expand its capabilities to strike Russian military and energy infrastructure.

As Rubryka previously reported, the Ukrainian defense company Fire Point plans to complete work on the FP-7 tactical ballistic missile this autumn. It is expected to have a range of up to 200 km and a 150 kg warhead. The company is also developing the longer-range FP-9, which is expected to have a range of up to 855 km.

What is currently known about the FP-9

The FP-9 is a Ukrainian ballistic missile being developed by the defense company Fire Point. As of October 2026, it is still a relatively new system, and some of its specifications remain undisclosed. The following is currently known:

The FP-9 is often compared with the US ATACMS and Russia's Iskander-M.
