California hosts Ukrainian Heritage Festival to highlight culture as part of the fight for freedom

The festival took place at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Saratoga. The central theme centered on the link between culture and the fight for freedom. A special part of the program featured a screening of the film "How Are You?", which tells the story of Ukrainian servicewomen.

The artistic program was complemented by a presentation of works by pysanka artist Sofiia Ohorodnyk. In her creations, she drew inspiration from the Ukrainian Baroque and the Cossack era.

Tetiana Loboda from Kyiv delivered the musical portion of the event. She played the kobza and performed Ukrainian historical, folk, and spiritual songs. Furthermore, the artist conducted introductory lessons on playing the instrument, open to children and adults alike.

At the fair, Ukrainian artists, designers, and artisans presented their works. The displayed items included: motanka dolls, handmade jewelry, leather goods, candles, ceramics, embroidered items, and traditional Ukrainian household objects.

Festival guests also sampled Ukrainian cuisine and baked goods. Members of the Ukrainian National Women's League of America prepared treats using family recipes.

Organizers set up a dedicated information table where Ukrainian organizations, churches, schools, and civic initiatives provided free information about their activities. This enabled representatives of various communities to introduce visitors to their work.

The Spirit of Freedom festival united Northern California's Ukrainian community and American guests, offering visitors an opportunity to connect with Ukrainian culture, history, art, and traditions.

It should be noted that High Park in Toronto unveiled a commemorative bench decorated with Ukrainian embroidery patterns. It was installed to mark the 10th anniversary of the Vyshyvanka Association's activities and to promote Vyshyvanka Day in Canada.

It was also reported that Ukrainian bread traditions took center stage at the "Pain, Ukraine, Solidarité" event held at the Malva restaurant in Lyon, France. Ukrainian chef Olha Kruchak presented guests with traditional pastries, including palianytsia, korovai, pampushky, 13 types of bread, and poppy seed roll.
