Ukraine's intelligence identifies 17 tankers supplying fuel to Russia from India
At the same time, the Main Intelligence Directorate notes that this decision represents much more than an attempt to protect the domestic market from fuel shortages and rapid price increases.
This involves guaranteeing the execution of state defense orders, supporting military and frontline logistics, and maintaining the militarized, temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, the Kaliningrad exclave, and the critically dependent 'Northern Supply' territories," Defense Intelligence stated.
According to Ukrainian intelligence, the main "gateways" for fuel shipments from India to Russia include Vitino, Kandalaksha, Murmansk, Vysotsk, Saint Petersburg, Nakhodka, and Vladivostok.
Supplies from India arrive via ship-to-ship transfers in Egypt, Türkiye, Morocco, and South Korea. Russian operators use these routes to ensure significant volumes of gasoline and diesel fuel reach the designated ports.
In mid-August, reports revealed that Russia received its first shipment of gasoline from India amid domestic supply problems. The fuel was shipped by the Indian refinery Nayara Energy, which is partially owned by Russia's Rosneft. Further deliveries are expected soon.
Background
As Rubryka previously reported, long-range Ukrainian strikes had hit 16 major Russian oil refineries and terminals as of June 16, disabling over 30% of Russia's oil refining capacity. Following an attack on the Omsk Oil Refinery in early July, strikes have now targeted nearly all of Russia's ten largest oil refineries.
On June 29, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin admitted for the first time that Russian citizens and businesses were having difficulty purchasing gasoline. According to the Russian dictator, authorities took several measures to overcome the fuel crisis gripping almost all Russian regions.
Russia is also currently negotiating to import AI-92 gasoline from Kazakhstan. The talks cover potential deliveries of around 50,000 tons of gasoline to stabilize the domestic market.
On July 5, reports indicated that gasoline imports from Belarus to Russia reached a record high in June, nearly 2.5 times May levels.
On July 11 and overnight into July 12, the Defense Forces of Ukraine struck the Syzran Oil Refinery in Russia's Samara region, along with 10 Russian tankers and four ferries in the Sea of Azov.
