Ukraine and Poland open international research center on Mount Pip Ivan

The minister also said a telescope had been installed on the mountain under a special dome. It was designed with the difficult weather conditions typical of high-altitude areas in mind. In the future, officials plan to add a robotic system to the telescope that can be controlled remotely.
Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University restored the observatory at the summit of Mount Pip Ivan in collaboration with Polish partners. At the same time, the center's equipment will be available not only to these institutions. Any research team will be able to apply it.
Butenko recalled that the observatory was built in 1938 as a research station of the University of Warsaw. Later, Soviet authorities destroyed the building, and its ruins remained on the summit of Mount Pip Ivan for decades.
He also thanked the team of Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University and Polish partners for their years of work on the project.

It should be noted that in April 2024, the research icebreaker Noosfera launched a new international study of life on the Antarctic seabed, opening a new area of scientific cooperation between Ukraine and Poland.
As part of cooperation between Polish and Ukrainian scientists, researchers collected samples of marine fauna from the bottom of the Southern Ocean for the first time. They used a special bottom trawl for the work. The study took place in the Penola Strait, near the Akademik Vernadsky station, at three different depths.
In 2026, thanks to a new agreement with Poland, Ukrainian scientists gained access to Arctic infrastructure. This will make it possible to create unique synchronized laboratories at both poles of the Earth and begin preparations to open Ukraine's own station in the Arctic.
