Ukraine Strikes Major Russian Oil Refinery in Yaroslavl, 1,000 Kilometers From the Front Line
Ukraine has struck the Slavneft-YANOS oil refinery in Russia’s Yaroslavl region, around 1,000 kilometers from the front line, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said. The Ukrainian General Staff confirmed the strike, reporting a fire at the facility, UATV English reports.
Slavneft-YANOS is one of Russia’s largest oil refineries, with an annual processing capacity of around 15 million tons of crude oil. It produces gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel, fuel oil, bitumen and other petroleum products.
The facility also plays a role in supplying Russia’s military needs, making its disruption an important target for Ukraine’s long-range strikes aimed at weakening Russia’s ability to finance and sustain its war.
The strike is part of Ukraine’s expanding campaign against Russia’s oil and energy infrastructure. The Yaroslavl refinery has been targeted repeatedly this year, with the latest attack reportedly marking the eighth strike on the facility in 2026.
In another operation, SBU special forces in Engels reportedly struck a Russian Tu-95MS strategic bomber, the type of aircraft Russia uses to launch missile attacks against Ukraine.
Ukraine has increasingly demonstrated the ability to hit strategically important Russian military and energy facilities deep inside Russia, significantly extending the reach of its long-range capabilities.
