Italians raise over €500,000 for treatment of severely wounded children in Lviv
What's the solution?
The Medal of Resistance of the Ukrainian People initiative was launched two years ago by Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato, Poste Italiane, and the 5P Global Foundation. The project aims to support Ukraine and help children affected by the war.
How does it work?
Students at the Italian State Mint's School of Medal Art designed a commemorative medal that became a symbol of solidarity between the Italian and Ukrainian people.
One of the first medals was presented to Nataliia and Yana Stepanenko, a mother and daughter who lost limbs in the Russian missile strike on the Kramatorsk railway station. The presentation took place in Rome during the project's launch.
Since then, organizers have sold about 7,700 charity medals and raised more than half a million euros.
According to Ukrainian medical staff, the funds allowed the Unbroken KIDS program to purchase:
Hospital officials said the equipment is already in use in operating rooms and patient wards.
The GMM Symbol FP S allows surgeons to obtain real-time X-ray images during operations, improving safety for children with blast injuries and complex fractures. The system helps doctors locate shrapnel more precisely and perform implant procedures more safely.
The five patient monitors continuously track vital signs.
The hospital also said additional medical equipment will be purchased soon using proceeds from future sales of the commemorative coins.
As previously reported, organizers of the Hugs Have No Diagnosis campaign launched a series of T-shirts featuring social inclusion messages and held a photo project with children and adults living with autism, Down syndrome, and hearing impairments.
All proceeds will support a comprehensive rehabilitation center for people with disabilities. The campaign sends a clear message: difference is not a reason for exclusion — it is what makes society stronger and more humane.
