Zelenskyi meets Swiss president in Geneva to discuss Russian attacks and strengthening Ukraine's air defenses

Zelenskyi thanked Switzerland for its support of Ukraine since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion and briefed Parmelin on the consequences of Russia's overnight attack on Ukraine on June 15.

The presidents also discussed diplomatic efforts to achieve peace and ongoing coordination with international partners. Zelenskyi noted that Ukraine's position on the battlefield is now significantly stronger.

"Our mid-strikes and dip-strikes are quite rightly forcing Russia to feel the consequences of the war it unleashed. We also discussed which sanctions measures our partners can take to compel Russia to come to the negotiating table," the president said.

The leaders further discussed strengthening sanctions against Russia, including new restrictions targeting the country's energy sector.

Zelenskyi also briefed his Swiss counterpart on Ukraine's needs in strengthening its air defense capabilities.

Particular attention was given to cooperation in the energy sector. The Ukrainian president thanked Switzerland for its contribution to strengthening Ukraine's energy resilience during the previous winter.

"Switzerland helped us get through this winter, and we count on its continued support. Thank you, Switzerland!" the Ukrainian President said.

At the end of the meeting, Zelenskyi invited the Swiss president to visit Ukraine.

As previously reported, Switzerland has announced a third call for reconstruction projects in Ukraine worth 50 million Swiss francs (around €53 million).

Switzerland has also provided Ukrainian emergency services with a shipment of diesel generators and mobile heating equipment. The new equipment will help rescue units respond more effectively to emergencies.

In addition, Switzerland allocated 1.7 million Swiss francs (approximately €1.8 million) to the city of Mykolaiv to support the stable operation of its water supply and wastewater systems.
