Five Ukrainian tennis players reach French Open second round
As noted, Ukraine will have five tennis players in the second round of the French Open for the first time in history.
On May 26, Oleksandra Oliynykova defeated Russian player Yelena Pridankina and became the fifth Ukrainian representative to advance to the tournament's second round.
The previous national record stood at four players in the second round. Ukrainian women had achieved that result in 2009, 2017, 2018, and 2025.

At the same time, Ukraine has already had five representatives in the second round of Grand Slam tournaments at other events in the series:
Australian Open 2018, Wimbledon 2024, US Open 2015 and 2016.
Last year, Ukrainian tennis players also set a record for the most third-round participants at Roland Garros. At that time, Elina Svitolina, Yuliia Starodubtseva, and Dayana Yastremska all reached that stage of the tournament.
After the first round of Roland Garros 2026, Ukraine already has nine individual wins at the tournament, the best result in the history of Ukrainian performances in Paris.
The previous records were eight wins in 2017 and seven in 2018 and 2023.

It should be noted that on May 17, Ukraine's top-ranked player, Elina Svitolina, won the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome. In the final, the Ukrainian tennis player defeated American Coco Gauff in three sets to claim the 20th title of her professional career.
Moreover, Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina returned to the world's top 10 in the updated WTA rankings. Svitolina earned 349 ranking points for reaching the Australian Open semifinals, allowing her to climb back into the top 10 in the world rankings.
