Today, Ukraine and Spain agreed on a list of products that will be produced under the Security Action for Europe (SAFE) program.
"It is important that Spain was among the first in Europe to allocate funds under the SAFE defense program to support production and to support Ukraine. Today, we agreed on a list of products that will be produced under SAFE.
We are working with European countries, in particular with Spain, so that the SAFE program and the corresponding funds are also used to finance production in Ukraine. We expect that Spain will also support us in this," Zelenskyi said during a conversation with the media in Madrid.
In addition, the Ukrainian head of state announced that Spain supports efforts to unblock a 90 billion euro loan for Ukraine, stating: "We (together with the Prime Minister of Spain) also discussed today the work on a 90 billion euro package for Ukraine from Europe. We need to unblock this package. Spain supports us. Moreover, this is a question not only of finances, but also of basic justice, which should exist in Europe."
Zelenskyi noted that the parties also talked about the PURL program. He recalled that this program, like SAFE, is pan-European and critical to Ukraine. The president noted that it allows Ukraine to purchase alternative means of air defense, such as Patriot missiles.
"We are actively working to ensure that Europe has its own strong production of anti-ballistic systems. I am sure that there will be results in this, but it will take time," he said.
At the same time, Sanchez assured that Ukraine can count on Spain's help both in protecting it from Putin and in rebuilding it in the future.
BackgroundAs reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi began his official visit to Spain on March 18 with a visit to the defense enterprise Sener Aerospace&Defense and an inspection of its production facilities.
Additionally, a ceremony was held in the presence of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to sign several agreements between Ukrainian manufacturers and Spanish companies on cooperation in missile technology and air defense.
