Massive missile and drone strikes hit Ukraine, targeting energy sector and sparking explosions across regions

On the evening prior, authorities declared air alerts in multiple regions of Ukraine following the launch of several groups of strike drones. Overnight, the Air Force tracked the movement of drones heading south and west, prompting air raid warnings to be issued across nearly the entire country.

At about six in the morning, the first enemy missiles were recorded in the airspace of Ukraine. According to the military, they entered from the territory of the Sumy and Chernihiv regions and moved towards the central and western regions.

As of this morning, the following regions were under attack by the Russian Federation:

Against the backdrop of the attack, emergency power outages were introduced in a number of regions, in particular in Kyiv, Cherkasy and Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Sumy regions. According to preliminary data, the strikes could have been directed at energy infrastructure facilities.

The Ministry of Energy confirmed that the target of today's Russian attack is Ukraine's energy infrastructure.

Emergency shutdowns will be canceled after the situation in the energy system stabilizes.

It's also worth noting that, the day before, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that Russia might carry out massive strikes on Ukrainian cities during the Christmas period. In response, Ukraine is strengthening its air defenses and urging citizens to remain vigilant.
