Melania Trump to bring Ukraine and Russia together to discuss Oleshky humanitarian mission
The White House announced the meeting, Rubryka reports.
"First Lady Melania Trump will personally bring representatives of Russia and Ukraine, two nations actively at war, together at the White House. This event represents an extraordinary moment in American history," the statement said.
First Lady Trump took the initiative to bring Ukraine and Russia to the table and secured a ceasefire deal in Oleshky, Kherson region, the White House said. It called the move an unprecedented diplomatic effort by a US first lady.
Lady Trump will make a statement on the Oleshky ceasefire at 11 a.m. local time on Thursday, November 5, at the White House.
Earlier, she said a humanitarian mission to Russian-occupied Oleshky in the Kherson region had helped evacuate nearly 800 people. Humanitarian aid was also delivered to the area.
On November 2, Ukrainian Human Rights Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said he had discussed further evacuation missions with Russian representatives. The talks focused on the Oleshky community, which includes six settlements. Lubinets also asked Melania Trump to help expand this evacuation effort.
Meanwhile, US special envoy Steve Witkoff said Ukraine and Russia would hold talks in Abu Dhabi on November 10-11.
The US will mediate the talks. Working-level teams will discuss postwar security arrangements, de-escalation, and humanitarian issues.
