Greenpeace tracks down seven illegal secret tankers carrying Russian diesel to the US
The group says the shipments break European sanctions and violate US law. It is calling on the tankers to turn back. Greenpeace Ukraine shared the findings, Rubryka reports.
Russia is keeping the shipments secret under a new order Putin signed on September 28, 2026. The order blocks the release of detailed information about oil and energy exports, including prices, buyers, shipping routes, terminals, storage sites, and customs data.
Greenpeace says Russia is using secrecy to dodge international sanctions designed to cut off the money it uses to wage war against Ukraine.
Greenpeace has set up an interactive tracker showing the tankers' locations. The group will update it as new shipments emerge.
It is currently tracking seven vessels:
The map lists each vessel's cargo, sanctions status, and reported destination, using data from MarineTraffic and Kpler. But Greenpeace warns that Russian tankers under sanctions often provide false information or change their reported destinations.
The seven tankers are carrying the first shipments under the October 9 deal between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The deal covers 300,000 tons (2.25 million barrels) of diesel for the US and global markets. Another 500,000 tons are due in November 2026, followed by 1 million more tons.
