Former UK Chief Of Defence Staff Is Convinced Ukraine Will Win The War Against Russia
Ukraine will win the war, and Russia will lose, thanks in part to Ukrainians’ ability to quickly adapt to conditions, scale up drone production, and inflict increasingly heavy losses on Russia, believes former UK Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Tony Radakin.
He stated this at the “Support Ukraine — Protect Europe” event, organized by the Kyiv Security Forum’s EU Office in Brussels, an Ukrinform correspondent reports, UATV English relays.
“Ukraine will win this war, Russia will lose. And that’s exactly how it will turn out,” Radakin emphasized, commenting on an Ukrainian soldier’s account of their experience.
Radakin expressed admiration for how Ukraine conducts its combat operations, adapts to new conditions, and finds unconventional solutions.
“Many of us expected drone warfare to spread much more widely, but we didn’t expect it to become this large-scale, or for adaptation to it to happen so quickly,” the admiral noted.
He emphasized that “Ukraine has managed to build an extraordinary capability to strike Russia and hold back the Russian army.” “This is the result of the whole country’s efforts, and I think this capability isn’t fully appreciated,” Radakin added.
He recalled that Ukraine has strengthened its ability to carry combat operations onto Russian territory and inflict heavier losses on it.
“For many of us, this is a source of lessons about how modern warfare is waged,” the admiral noted.
At the same time, he noted that over the past four months, Ukraine’s economic foundation has significantly weakened, pointing to a greater need for support from allies. European states must provide Ukraine with the financial resources it cannot secure on its own, and must also review and strengthen their efforts to support Ukrainian defense, the admiral believes.
“The only way to end this war is to force President Putin to sit down at the negotiating table. And that can only be achieved through coercion. That’s exactly why Ukraine seeks to carry the fight onto Russian territory,” Radakin emphasized.
It was previously reported that Netherlands Armed Forces Chief of Defense General Onno Eichelsheim stated that the war in Ukraine shows just how quickly new technology, particularly drones, is changing the nature of combat operations.
