Ukrainian civilians evacuated from Russian-occupied Oleshky reach Ukraine-controlled territory
Zelenskyi stressed that everyone would receive the necessary assistance upon arrival. He also said Ukraine hoped humanitarian access to Oleshky would remain open.
"We hope humanitarian access to Oleshky will remain open and that people who need evacuation will be able to leave the city and the surrounding community. As of now, Ukrainian citizens from Oleshky have crossed the Ukrainian border in Chernihiv region. They will all receive the necessary assistance. It is important that government agencies and all the regional and local authorities involved work effectively and help our people adapt," Zelenskyi said.
According to Suspilne, around 50 Red Cross ambulances, representatives of Doctors Without Borders, and volunteers who will evacuate animals are waiting for the residents of Oleshky on the Ukrainian side of the border.
Several tents have also been set up to provide hot meals, tea, and coffee. Around 30 medical workers are on duty in the tents, ready to examine people and provide first aid.
Ambulances and special buses are also available for people in more serious condition. Law enforcement officers are working at the site, and rescuers are on standby.
Earlier, Rubryka reported that residents of temporarily occupied Oleshky in Kherson region who chose to travel to Ukrainian-controlled territory had arrived at Gomel Airport in Belarus. Three planes arrived in total. Medical assistance is being provided to the evacuees, and a tent camp has been set up to receive them.
What is known about the evacuation route?
As previously reported, a Ukrainian delegation arrived in Russian-occupied Oleshky in Kherson region on October 30 to carry out a humanitarian mission. Ukrainian representatives reached the city safely, and the ceasefire had been in effect for 80 hours at the time of the report.
Under agreements between the Ukrainian and Russian sides, the evacuation route for Oleshky residents will pass through Russia and Belarus, after which they will be able to enter Ukraine.
The route was chosen because of the security situation along the front line. Restrictions are in place in the area, and there is no route across the river because the territory is mined and lies directly adjacent to the front line.
As Rubryka reported, Ukraine's Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, had earlier announced that routes in temporarily occupied Oleshky had been cleared of mines. A humanitarian convoy had been assembled and prepared for departure, with delivery scheduled for October 30.
On October 30, the ombudsman reported that 25 buses with a total capacity of 750 passengers had been prepared to evacuate local residents, along with specialized transport for people with reduced mobility and nine ambulances. Humanitarian aid tailored to residents' needs was also planned for delivery to the city.
The Ukrainian delegation is accompanying evacuated residents of temporarily occupied Oleshky in Kherson region to Anapa, Russia. From there, they are expected to be flown to Belarus and then transported to Ukraine by bus.
