Ukrainian Khalkevych wins her second silver of the season in Climbing World Series

Khalkevych reached the knockout rounds through qualifying, where she was Ukraine's sole representative. She posted the fifth-fastest time among all competitors to advance.

This is Khalkevych's second World Climbing Series medal of the season. She won her first silver in late May in Alcobendas, Spain, also in speed climbing.

After five events this season, the Ukrainian sits second in the overall speed standings. Khalkevych has 2,870 points and trails only Indonesia's Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi, the 2023 world champion.

Two individual speed events remain in this World Climbing Series season. Chongqing, China, will host the next competition from September 18 to September 20, followed by Santiago, Chile, from October 23 to October 25.

Khalkevych made her debut at the World Cup level, now known as the World Climbing Series, in the 2025 season. She finished 30th in speed climbing at the Krakow event.

This season, the Ukrainian has recorded five top-10 finishes in the World Climbing Series and won her first two silver medals, in Spain and China.

Background

In July, the 18-year-old became a youth world silver medalist. At the senior European Championships in late August, Khalkevych reached the quarterfinals and finished sixth in speed climbing.

Earlier, 16-year-old Ukrainian Rafael Kazbekova became a junior world climbing champion in the Finnish capital, Helsinki. It was Ukraine's first title in 15 years.
