Pistorius Unveils ‘City Dome’ Project to Shield Ukrainian Cities as Kyiv to Buy Thousands of IRIS-T Missiles Funded by EU Loan
Under the defense portion of the EU’s €90 billion loan, Ukraine will purchase guided missiles for IRIS-T air defense systems from Germany.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated this ahead of the meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (“Ramstein” format), held via videoconference on September 8, UATV English reports.
Pistorius said Ukraine will purchase IRIS-T guided missiles from Germany, funded by the EU loan.
“I’m glad that Ukraine will order several thousand more IRIS-T guided missiles, which will be financed through the EU’s defense loan for Ukraine,” Pistorius stated.
He emphasized that the medium-range IRIS-T air defense system “has been used very, very successfully in Ukraine.”
“We continue uninterrupted supplies of IRIS-T air defense systems, including guided missiles,” the German minister added.

“I’m glad that the important City Dome project is now being implemented. As part of this project, Germany will support the creation of a shield to protect Ukrainian cities from drone and missile attacks,” Pistorius reported.
He added that, besides strengthening Ukraine’s air defense, Germany is making a significant contribution to building up other capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
