Ukraine's position is stronger now than at any point since the war began — Finnish president
Stubb said he had a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi. The two leaders discussed Russia's aggression against Ukraine and further steps.
According to the Finnish president, Ukraine's current position is the strongest it has been since the start of the war, and Kyiv is ready for peace. At the same time, he emphasized that continued support from allies remains essential to maintaining this advantage.
"We discussed Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and the path ahead. Ukraine's position is stronger than ever since the war began. Continued support from the partners is critical to keep up the momentum," Stubb said.
What is known about Ukraine's readiness for a peace agreement
As previously reported, the negotiation process between Ukraine and Russia was suspended in the winter. Initially, the reason was that the United States, which was acting as a mediator, began a war with Iran. Later, Moscow refused to continue the dialogue.
On June 4, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi published an open letter to Putin, in which he proposed a personal meeting to "end the war."
In response, the Kremlin leader said he "does not yet see the point" in such a meeting. Earlier, Putin had also claimed that his meeting with Zelenskyi should be "final" and intended "for signing an agreement," rather than for discussing the terms of ending the war launched by Russia.
On July 24, during a conversation with an American blogger, the Ukrainian leader emphasized that US President Donald Trump had come to believe in Kyiv's sincere desire to end the war. Saving human lives remains Ukraine's priority, and therefore a quick end to hostilities is preferable to years of continued fighting.
Zelenskyi also said he was ready to sign a peace agreement with Russia either in the Oval Office of the White House or at US President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence.
