United to win: Ukrainian Khyzhak turret completes sea trials on NATO ship
According to the developers, the Alliance became interested in installing remotely controlled turrets on warships after joint exercises in which Ukrainian Magura naval drones conditionally disabled a frigate.
After that, NATO began seeking effective solutions to protect ships against surface drones.
The engineers' first task was to install the combat module without interfering with the ship's structure. To do this, the team created a special platform that allowed the turret to be mounted on a standard machine-gun mount. The module itself was equipped with an FN MAG machine gun.

After the equipment was installed and configured, the crew received information about training targets and began the trials. During the tests, Khyzhak successfully engaged both an aerial target and a simulated surface drone.

Khyzhak is a universal remotely controlled combat module that was first presented in late 2024. The module has several significant features:
The turret has full 360-degree rotation, with vertical aiming angles from -12 to +80 degrees, and the option to increase the depression angle to -20 degrees.
The module supports 7.62 mm machine guns of both Soviet and NATO standards. One of its main features is a stabilization system that ensures accurate fire even while moving.
In addition, Khyzhak has an artificial intelligence system that automatically detects, identifies, and tracks targets. This allows the module to be used effectively against drones, including FPV drones, at short ranges.

It should be noted that in July 2025, Ukraine's Ministry of Defense codified the Khyzhak combat module and approved it for operation in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
As Rubryka reported, Ukrainian company ROBONEERS presented the remotely controlled "SHABLIA K-2" combat module, designed to support infantry operations in close combat.
