US warns Ukraine not to strike non-Russian vessels following Chevron tanker incident
Chevron is one of the largest American energy corporations and holds a stake in the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), whose oil pipeline runs through the Russian port of Novorossiysk.
According to analysts cited by The Wall Street Journal, if Ukrainian strikes on the export infrastructure of the Novorossiysk port continue, Chevron may be forced to reduce production at the Tengiz oil field. The reason cited is the port's limited oil storage capacity.
Sources told the publication that Chevron CEO Mike Wirth recently met with representatives of US President Donald Trump's administration. The talks focused on the situation in the Black Sea and protecting the company's interests in the region.
Following those discussions, the Trump administration warned Ukraine against targeting non-Russian vessels in the Black Sea.
"The administration views the CPC as a vital channel for supplying Kazakh-origin energy to European markets, serving as an alternative to Russian energy supplies," the Wall Street Journal source said.
The publication also noted that this is not the first such case. In February, Ukraine's ambassador to the United States, Olha Stefanishyna, said that Kyiv had received a US diplomatic protest over strikes on Russia's Black Sea port of Novorossiysk.
As previously reported, Kazakhstan may be forced to suspend crude oil shipments to its main export terminal due to a series of attacks on oil tankers in the Black Sea. One of the key factors is the terminal's location and shipping companies' concerns over the safety of maritime transportation.
The Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) terminal is Kazakhstan's main oil export route, handling about 80% of the country's crude oil shipments.

According to Bloomberg, Kazakhstan is the second-largest oil supplier to Europe. A reduction in exports from the country could negatively affect European refineries, which are currently trying to offset declining supplies from the Persian Gulf region.
At the same time, the agency notes that Ukraine has not claimed direct responsibility for the strikes involving Western vessels. Nevertheless, reports have emerged in recent days about several attacks on unnamed oil tankers in the Black Sea.
"Although the CPC terminal is located in Russia, exports from the facility are not subject to Western sanctions," Bloomberg noted.
