Russian army attacks Kyiv with ballistic missiles overnight, killing two and injuring several civilians
Because of the threat that Russian troops could use ballistic weapons, authorities declared an air alert in Kyiv and several regions of Ukraine on the night of July 16.
The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported ballistic missiles moving toward Kyiv. After 1 a.m., the military clarified that four missiles were on their way to the capital.
Later, Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klychko reported the first consequences of the attack. According to him, a strike hit the warehouse premises in the Sviatoshynskyi district.
In the Darnytskyi district, missile debris fell on the territory of non-residential buildings. Later, the mayor clarified that another hit on a non-residential building had also been recorded at a different address in the Darnytskyi district, causing fires.
In addition, a one-story warehouse caught fire after a strike in the Sviatoshynskyi district. Three people were injured there.
At 1:29 a.m., the Air Force reported that the threat of enemy ballistic weapons had ended.
In the morning, Vitalii Klychko reported that two people had been killed in the ballistic attack on the capital.

He also noted that a 16-year-old boy was among the injured. According to Klychko, medics hospitalized three of the injured.
Later, rescuers clarified the consequences of the shelling. According to them, the Russian attack killed two people and injured five others, including one child.
The Sviatoshynskyi and Darnytskyi districts of the capital came under attack.
In the Darnytskyi district, fires broke out in an administrative and warehouse building, a warehouse, and in trucks parked nearby.
"The fires have been extinguished," the State Emergency Service said.
In the Sviatoshynskyi district, a strike caused a fire in a one-story warehouse. Three people were injured there.
Rescuers reported that they had localized the fire.
"Rescuers continue to eliminate the consequences of Russian aggression. Information about the dead and injured is being clarified," the State Emergency Service added.
In addition, the Kyiv Patrol Police reported the temporary closure of traffic on Akademika Koroliova Avenue.
According to law enforcement officers, traffic was restricted on the section from Pshenychna Street to the intersection with Ivana Dziuby Street.
The Patrol Police called on road users to take the temporary restrictions into account when planning their routes.
Background
It should be noted that since the beginning of July, Russia has already carried out five massive attacks on the capital. On the night of July 14, Russian troops attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles. In the Holosiivskyi district, a hit was recorded on warehouse premises, while in the Darnytskyi district, cars caught fire after debris fell. A building of one of the boarding schools was also damaged.
In addition, on the night of July 11, Russian troops launched a ballistic strike on Kyiv. Ten people were injured, including one child. At the same time, President Zelenskyi said that 11 people had been injured during the overnight Russian attack.
Also, on the morning of July 8, Kyiv came under a new wave of drone attacks. As a result of the shelling, destruction was reported, people were injured, and three people were killed. A Russian UAV fell and exploded near a gas distribution station in the Desnianskyi district. Another UAV hit a 25-story residential building.
On the night of July 6, Russia launched a massive strike on the Kyiv region. The Bucha, Vyshhorod, and Brovary districts suffered the most. As a result of the Russian attack and the subsequent detonation of ammunition in Vyshneve in the Kyiv region on July 6, nine people were killed, and almost two dozen others were injured and hospitalized.
