Zelenskyi: Russia has killed at least 707 Ukrainian children since the start of full-scale war

The president also recalled that June 4 marks the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression. This date honors the memory of children who have suffered as a result of wars and violence.

According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, Russia has taken children's lives with missiles, aerial bombs, artillery, and drones. Children have died in their own beds, on the streets of cities and villages, and in medical facilities. In addition, Ukrainian children have been deported, illegally detained, had their lives destroyed, and subjected to attempts to strip them of the right to remain Ukrainian.

At the same time, these are only the crimes that have already been documented and proven. The real scale of the tragedy in the temporarily occupied territories may be far greater.

Among the numerous crimes, only a few episodes have become symbols of this tragedy.

Investigators have notified 234 Russian service members and other involved individuals of suspicion. Prosecutors have sent indictments against 108 people to court. Courts have already handed down verdicts in several cases. However, the work continues," the Office of the Prosecutor General said in a statement.

The office added that its goal remains to identify everyone involved in these crimes:

There is no statute of limitations for such crimes.

As of June 4, 2026, according to official data from the Office of the Prosecutor General, at least 707 children have been killed in Ukraine as a result of the Russian Federation's armed aggression. More than 2,548 children have suffered injuries of varying severity.

The real number of victims is higher, as these figures do not include victims in temporarily occupied territories and areas of active hostilities.

The highest numbers of child casualties have been recorded in the following regions:

Background

On June 4, Ukraine honors the memory of children killed as a result of Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine established this remembrance day by resolution in 2021.

The International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression is marked annually on June 4. The UN General Assembly established it in 1982 during one of its special sessions dedicated to the question of Palestine.

This day aims to draw the international community's attention to the problem of aggression and violence suffered by children in different countries around the world.

As reported earlier, Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on the international community to increase pressure on the Russian Federation to ensure the immediate, safe, and unconditional return of all illegally deported and forcibly displaced Ukrainian children.
