Chicago Ukrainian community raises $13,000 for treatment of Ukrainian soldiers in US

The organization said parishioners collected the funds during three Sunday liturgies. All donations will go toward the treatment, prosthetics, and rehabilitation of Ukrainian defenders who suffered severe injuries on the front line.

The event was attended by Kostiantyn Humeniuk, chief surgeon of the Armed Forces of Ukraine; Artem Kobirnichenko, a urologist and lieutenant colonel; and Vitalii Haniuk, an anesthesiologist.

The doctors arrived in the United States together with three severely wounded service members who will undergo long-term treatment at UIC Hospital in Chicago.

Ukrainian soldiers undergoing rehabilitation in the United States also spoke to the community. They shared their personal stories and thanked those who supported them.

During the meeting, Ukrainian doctors stressed the importance of continued international assistance for Ukraine. They spoke about the heavy burden on military hospitals, which receive and treat wounded defenders every day.

The organizers thanked the parish of Saints Volodymyr and Olha Church and all donors who contributed to the fundraiser for Ukrainian soldiers.

Background

It should be noted that the famous Soldier Field 10 memorial race took place in downtown Chicago on May 23, 2026. It is one of the best-known sporting events in the United States. This year, as part of official Memorial Day Weekend events and ahead of Ukraine's National Barrier-Free Week, a delegation of 10 Ukrainian service members joined American veterans at the race.
