German government approves sale of 100 Panzerhaubitze 2000 artillery systems to Ukraine

The German government has approved the sale of 100 Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled artillery howitzers to Ukraine, Spiegel has reported. On 13 July, the German arms manufacturer Krauss-Maffei Wegmann received a license from the German Economy Ministry to manufacture the artillery systems. The company also confirmed information about the arms deal. This volume exceeds the cost of previous arms deliveries from Germany. Whereas Ukraine had previously spent around €600m on the procurement, the cost of 100 Panzerhaubitze 2000 will amount to €1.7bn.
