I Never Expected to Love Kim Kardashian in a Pixie Cut
It was the pixie cut seen ‘round the world—the one Kim Kardashian debuted during Paris Fashion Week. While we're used to the Skims founder changing up her hair on a frequent basis, there was one style I never thought she'd seriously try: the pixie, a.k.a. her mom Kris Jenner's signature style. But try it she did, and I have to be honest: I'm kind of obsessed!
Kardashian likes to make a big hair change during Paris Fashion Week. Remember when she went platinum blonde back in 2015, one of her first forays into a super-pale blonde shade? Sitting front row at a fashion show is the best time to show off a new style, but Kardashian rarely wears her hair any shorter than shoulder length; she typically prefers longer lengths and tends to veer more “bombshell” than “gamine” in her wardrobe and glam routine. But the pixie brings out a whole new side of the reality star and entrepreneur—it's elegant but a little cheeky, glamorous but mod, and so dramatically different that I want her to keep it forever.
Kardashian's “Paris pixie” was the work of her go-to hairstylist Chris Appleton, and it came at exactly the right time. Pixies are having a major moment! Emma Stone treated us to two different takes on the pixie/bixie during her buzzcut grow-out process, starting with a cute Mia Farrow-esque pixie at the Golden Globes and letting it evolve into a '90s bixie. Keke Palmer cut one in late August, pairing it with her now-trademark copper red hair color.
But the big question is, what does Kardashian's pixie mean? That remains to be seen! We already know she's following in her mom's footsteps, so if it was an ode to Jenner, it was a good one. Or maybe she was just bored with her usual long hairstyles and wanted to try something unexpected. Regardless of the motivation, it worked, because I'm going to be thinking about this pixie for a long, long time.
