Dua Lipa, Where Have Your Eyebrows Gone?
Dua Lipa's thick, full brows are her signature. It doesn't matter if her hair is brunette, blonde, or cherry cola red; the dark brows are always perfectly in place, groomed but not overly sculpted, and she likes it that way. However, the musician just erased her brows entirely and she looks like a completely different person … or maybe a mermaid.
In a new video of moments from her forthcoming new album, Lipa shows off some dramatic bleached eyebrows in between frolicking in the ocean and hanging upside down. At certain points in the vid, her brows are present and accounted for: bold, dark, gorgeous. But then, poof! They're gone. Erased. Did she bleach them or is this a magical makeup trick? Though the video moves fast, it appears that they've simply been covered up with makeup versus bleached, which tracks with what Lipa previously told Allure about her commitment to the full brow.
Earlier this year, the singer told us that she's been into a more minimal makeup look lately, with “dewy skin” and clear gel in her brows. “I don't feel like I need to get [the brows] any darker than they already are," she said. Lipa also shared that she once got an email from a woman who owned a brow bar offering to “fix” them. "And I was like, ‘I don't pluck my eyebrows.’ So you're just saying that my eyebrows are fucked, basically? I'm gonna stick with them, because this is what I got. These are the cards I got dealt.” Bleaching your eyebrows doesn't have to be permanent, of course, but it sounds like Lipa is all about the full brow look, forever.
Clearly Lipa hasn't fully shaken the mermaidcore aesthetic post-Barbie movie. (She played a blue-haired sea siren in the film.) She paired the invisible brows with gleaming golden skin, wet hair, and the shiniest silver chrome manicure, looking more like a mythical sea maiden than a 2024 pop superstar.
