Emma Stone's Hair Is a Master Class in Growing Out a Buzz Cut

After Sofia Riche Grainge cut off her hair a few days ago, I started seeing a lot of TikToks pleading with people to not get a bob themselves, citing, among other challenges, the awkward grow-out phase when you're craving longer hair again. And I get. I'm currently growing out a bob myself, and I have neither-here-nor-there hair days, but nothing that makes me want to go into hiding like this big-chop pooh-poohers are suggesting. And if you really want proof that you can grow out any short haircut with grace and style, just look at Emma Stone, who's making every centimeter of post-buzz-cut growth look incredibly cool.

Stone stirred up a lot of buzz—pun intended, of course—when she was spotted in a beanie last year, followed by several appearances in what many suspected was a wig. And then, at the Golden Globe Awards in January of this year, she premiered a rumor-vindicating pixie cut that I honestly wish I'd had a picture of to take to my hairstylist back when I went supershort in the late '90s (when the bixie was all the rage).

But as jaw-droppingly adorable as the pixie cut was, the Oscar-winning actor has seemed eager to grow it out. I get it! No matter how many compliments you get, sometimes you just don't feel like you in a certain hairstyle. And I must say, Stone is making the case for shaving your head because of the grow-out process, making it seem like it's a flawless road full of fabulous looks on the way back to longer hair.

At the Los Angeles premiere of her new film, Eddington, Stone topped off a disco-reminiscent off-the-shoulder Louis Vuitton gown with what's arguably still a pixie cut, but a noticeably longer, shaggier version.

Stylist Mara Roszak dubbed this look the “whymsy pixie,” and to achieve it, she used her own Roz Air Thickening Spray on Stone's wet hair before scrunching and diffusing. Once it was dry, she made it piecey with Evergreen Style Cream (the same one she debuted on Stone's Golden Globes look).

I know what you're thinking. You wanna cut off all your hair. And I'm not gonna stop you because if the grow-out can look like this, there's no reason not to.
