Zaluzhnyi meets Ukrainian school leaders in UK to discuss children's national identity
He said Ukrainian schools in the UK rank among the leading verified Ukrainian schools abroad.
"I had the chance to meet with leaders of Ukrainian schools and learning centers from across the UK. According to Ukraine's Ministry of Education and Science, these schools rank among the top verified Ukrainian schools abroad. This shows how strong and active the Ukrainian education community in Britain is," Zaluzhnyi stated.
A key topic was how to support Ukrainian schools abroad and help children preserve their national identity. Participants discussed better support for teachers, getting young people and graduates involved in education, and helping Ukrainian schools grow.
Zaluzhnyi said Ukrainian schools abroad play a key role in keeping the country's identity alive. Supporting these schools means more than helping them teach classes. It also means making sure children stay connected to the Ukrainian language and culture.
He also pointed to the UK's decision to introduce a GCSE exam in Ukrainian, saying it would give the language a place in the British education system.
Zaluzhnyi said the strategic partnership between Ukraine and the UK could also lead to new joint projects in education and science.
As Rubryka reported, students in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland will be able to take a Ukrainian language GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education) exam, starting in September 2028.
The exam will help Ukrainian children who moved to the UK because of the war stay connected to their language and culture.
GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education) is a British qualification system. Students usually take these exams at ages 15–16, after finishing compulsory secondary education.
The exams cover a range of subjects. Students' grades can affect their options for further education and employment.
More people around the world are learning Ukrainian. Rubryka has shared stories of people teaching the language to foreigners and bringing Ukrainian culture to even the most remote corners of the world.
