Rescuers recover bodies of 53 people in Komyshuvakha as search operation continues

Yuliia Barysheva, a spokesperson for the State Emergency Service in the Zaporizhzhia region, announced the latest update at an interagency press conference, Rubryka reports.

Barysheva said the search-and-rescue operation is ongoing and the death toll could change as crews continue searching the site.

Rescue teams from the Zaporizhzhia region are working alongside canine units and specialists from other regions. Armored vehicles transport personnel to the site.

The search is taking place in difficult and dangerous conditions. Constant threats, shelling, and attacks force rescuers to suspend work to protect their teams.

Heavy dust at the site is also hampering the search, said rescue dog handler Roman Samolenko.

He said rescuers and their service dogs are searching the area for bodies and human remains. Canine teams continue working at the site of the airstrike, helping search through the heavy dust.

As Rubryka previously reported, Russian forces bombed an underground school in Komyshuvakha on November 2. At the time, the building served as a humanitarian aid center where residents could pick up supplies.

Russian forces hit the community with at least nine FAB-3000 guided aerial bombs. The strike hit a site used to distribute humanitarian aid to residents who had stayed in Komyshuvakha. Aid was handed out there every week. Ukraine's president noted that Russian forces could not have been unaware of the site's purpose.

Serhii Bodnar, acting medical director of the city's emergency hospital, said rescuers saved five people after the airstrike. Four of them remain hospitalized.

A 22-year-old woman is in critical condition, with burns covering 81% of her body. The other patients have moderate injuries.

All the patients arrived at the hospital conscious. They are now receiving treatment in the burn unit, neurosurgery unit, oral and maxillofacial surgery department, and trauma unit.

According to Mykhailo Semikin, acting head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, the death toll from the attack rose to 37 on November 4, on day 3 after the attack.

On November 5, the authorities reported that the death toll had risen to 43. Dozens of people may still be trapped under the rubble.

Search teams, rescue dogs, and emergency workers from Ukraine's State Emergency Service are working at the site. The search and rescue operation is still ongoing.
