13-year-old Mariia Kocherzhenko becomes first Ukrainian to win the U14 Tennis Masters

According to the outlet, Kocherzhenko's path to the final was not flawless: she lost one of her three group-stage matches. However, thanks to the best record in sets won, the Ukrainian finished first in her group and advanced to compete for the title.

Three players in the group each recorded two wins and one loss. The percentage of sets won was therefore used to determine the group leader. Kocherzhenko won five of her seven sets, securing her place in the final. Her opponent, Italy's Olivia Serena Conticello, reached the decisive match without losing a group-stage match.

The Ukrainian played four matches on her way to the title. She won her first two matches in straight sets before losing to Czech player Beata Marešová.

In the final, Kocherzhenko defeated the Italian player in straight sets, winning 7–6, 6–3. This made her the first Ukrainian to win the U14 Masters title since the tournament was established in 1996. Ukrainian tennis players had reached the final before but had never won the championship.
