Ukrainian National Guard delivers over 600 kg of aid to children in occupied Oleshky by drone

According to Vyhivskyi, the cargo consisted of 15 packages. They were delivered by members of the Bolgarychi special-purpose company of the 11th Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine.

"They contain breakfast cereals, milk, educational games, and toys. The 15 packages weigh more than 600 kilograms in total," the post reads.

Vyhivskyi stressed that Ukrainian military personnel continue to help residents of the Kherson region despite the Russian occupation.

"Despite the Russian occupation and the difficult conditions faced by residents of Kherson Oblast, our units continue to support people," he noted.

Children who were born after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion remain in Oleshky.

"Among the children currently living in besieged Oleshky are those who were born during the full-scale war and know no life without terror. We support these families and deliver essential supplies to them," the minister emphasised.

Vyhivskyi thanked everyone involved in the effort: those who collected the aid, operated the drones, and provided cover during delivery. He singled out the people who continue to support Ukrainians in temporarily occupied territories, putting their lives at risk.

What is known about the situation in Oleshky and the surrounding community?

On October 19, Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets said that Ukraine and Russia had come close to agreeing on the final details of evacuating civilians from the occupied Oleshky community to territory controlled by the Ukrainian government. The parties are currently working to agree on the conditions for ensuring a ceasefire and evacuating everyone who wishes to leave.

Meanwhile, Ukraine's Defence Forces carried out a new operation to deliver food and medicine to Oleshky, delivering the largest quantity of food so far — nearly two tonnes.

On October 24, Lubinets announced that the ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia scheduled for October 27 would apply not only in besieged Oleshky, but also across the Kherson region and neighbouring regions through which humanitarian routes would pass.

The White House had previously reported that an agreement on a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine had been reached with the assistance of US First Lady Melania Trump. She worked directly with Russian and Ukrainian leadership alongside her representative.

As Rubryka reported, approximately 2,000 residents of Oleshky have been living without food, drinking water, or medicine and under strict Russian occupation forces' control since April 2026. The city has been occupied since the first days of Russia's full-scale invasion. However, the situation deteriorated in spring 2026: residents face shortages of food and medicine, while Russia blocks their departure to Ukrainian-controlled territory. Around 2,000 people remain under siege.

What leverage can Ukraine use against Russia, have similar situations occurred during Russia's war against Ukraine, and what solutions worked in those cases? Rubryka spoke with Oleksandr Pavlichenko, Executive Director of the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union, to find out.
