“A Cowardly Step To Please Putin”: US Senator Criticizes Trump’s Refusal To Impose New Sanctions On Russia
President Donald Trump is acting in the interests of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, not of Americans or Washington’s allies. US Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal stated this, commenting on the White House head’s refusal to impose new sanctions against Russia under Graham’s law, UATV English relays.
The senator, who co-authored Senator Lindsey Graham’s sanctions bill, called on Republicans to condemn Trump’s decision.
“Donald Trump is once again confirming that he’s siding with a bloodthirsty thug and the henchmen of the Russian war machine, rather than with the majority of Americans, their representatives in both chambers of Congress, and our European allies. These waivers and exemptions have nothing to do with our national security — all of this is being done solely to curry favor with Vladimir Putin. I hope my Republican colleagues will join me in condemning this spineless and cowardly step,” Blumenthal wrote on X.
It was previously reported that US President Donald Trump refused to impose new sanctions against Russia under Senator Lindsey Graham’s bill, citing the country’s national interests. The document provides for 500% tariffs on Russian goods and 100% tariffs on goods from countries that continue purchasing Russian oil and gas.
