Serena Williams's Diamond Manicure Is a Total Gem
Serena Williams is back on the court at Wimbledon, and she picked the perfect manicure for her much-anticipated return.
It's been four years since Williams played at Wimbledon, and while she lost her singles match to Australian player Maya Joint, we were thrilled to watch the gold medalist—often called the Queen of Tennis—flexing her skills on Wimbledon's famed grass court once more. One detail in particular about her gameday look instantly caught our eye—but how could it not, given the major sparkle factor at play?
For the match, Williams wore a glittering, sparkling gemstone manicure that looked like she had placed actual diamonds on each of her fingernails. Her nails were a medium length with a rounded shape and each nail featured its own glittering motif, with a metallic silver base coat serving as the foundation for the large gemstones placed in the center of each finger. If you zoom in, you'll see there's a mix of clear gemstones and canary-colored stones on her forefinger, middle finger, ring finger, and pinky, with a cool hammered metallic texture on her thumbs.
The diamond manicure also turned the spotlight on her gorgeous, oval-shaped diamond engagement ring, and absolutely popped against her crisp tennis whites from Nike. In other photos from the match, Williams is missing one of her gems, which means it may have gotten loose during gameplay. It happens, but that doesn't lessen the sparkle one bit! Plus, there's never a bad time for a gem-studded manicure; it just so happens to be one of our favorite nail art trends of this year so far.
Though Williams's Wimbledon comeback didn't end with a win, she was thrilled to be back on the London court where she's celebrated so many memorable games and victories—especially with her daughters, Alexis and Adira, watching in the crowd. “It was really great to be back at Wimbledon. I never expected to be here,” Williams told CNN after the match. “The atmosphere was amazing. Walking out was amazing. I definitely relished it and missed it and enjoyed the moment more than anything.”
