7 Best Electric Razors for Women That Tackle Head-to-Toe Hair
Dealing with razor burn, ingrown hairs, and post-shave irritation? It might be time to invest in one of the best electric razors. Even if you're a longtime shaver, swapping out your standard razor can be worth the adjustment: Not only can an electric razor save you the hassle of constantly reupping on refill blades, but they also spare your skin from some of the most common shaving issues out there, too.
Electric razors are kind of a double-edged sword: They don’t shave as close to the skin as manual ones, Vidya Shivakumar, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in Chicago, tells Allure. But as a result, they don’t cause as much irritation. You’re less likely to develop razor burn, irritation, or ingrown hairs with an electric razor—and you probably won’t come away with as many nicks and cuts. “They are also quick, convenient, and can often be used without shaving cream or water,” Dr. Shivakumar adds.
If you imagine a clunky, corded behemoth (that doesn’t even shave that well) when you think of an electric razor, we can’t blame you. Old-school trimmers left a lot to be desired. Luckily, the latest models make the process dramatically more convenient and efficient, with blades that can hack through ultra coarse hair, long-lasting battery life, and clever attachments that let you tailor your trim to your liking. Editors and experts clued us in on the best electric razors, shavers, and trimmers you can try. Scroll on to find your tool of choice.

After riding a high of TikTok popularity in the early 2020s, The Trimmer Original from Meridian won a 2024 Best of Beauty Award for its waterproof design (shower shavers, rejoice!) and gentle, long-lasting ceramic blades (which last up to four months before needing a replacement). It’s technically designed for men’s body hair, but it can groom pretty much any part of the body, whatever the gender. It clears thick hair and navigates tricky curves without clogging, and it comes with a built-in nick guard and two guide combs that let you choose between four lengths.
Our testers found that it works best on legs, pits, and arms, but it can clean up your bikini line in a pinch, too; it’s a great option to tide you over between waxes. And we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention that The Trimmer is the rare body maintenance tool that performs well and looks nice: It comes in several cute colors, including powder blue and sage, as well as patterns like camo.

Philips
Amazon
Why we love it: Philips’ Lady Shaver Series 8000 actually comes with two tools: The shaver makes short work of your body hair (especially when you prep your skin with the exfoliating gloves that come with it), while the facial hair remover gently targets peach fuzz and fine upper lip hair. That’s your everything shower routine sorted. Nava Greenfield, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in New York City, recommends it (and uses it herself) because the razor has a flexible head and delivers an impressively close shave, so you don’t have to pass over the same swath of skin multiple times. She also likes its built-in LED light, which helps illuminate any stray hairs.

Schick

Why we love it: You don’t have to part with the super-close shave that comes with a manual razor if you opt for this dual-ended Best of Beauty Award winner. The trimmer side has a sliding guard that lets you choose from four lengths, which comes in handy for both full shaves and in-between upkeep. (Go for the shortest length, though, if you plan on following up your trim with the traditional five-blade razor end. That way, you’ll end up with as little stubble as possible.) It’s also designed to keep skin calm: The razor head is surrounded by a hydrating serum of shea butter and hyaluronic acid that soothes and moisturizes. The fact that it clocks in under $20 is just icing on the cake.
Tester feedback from senior editor Jesa Marie Calaor
“When it comes to body hair removal, I’ve been loyal to one tool: the Schick Hydro Silk TrimStyle. I absolutely haaaate managing my body hair, but it’s a necessary evil because of how uncomfortable it can be when it grows out. (My body hair grows in thick and wavy.) This dual-ended device saves me time, allowing me to switch seamlessly between the battery-operated trimmer and razor. Even better, it’s so durable. It lives in my shower, yet I’ve had the same TrimStyle handle for about three years. (I’ve replaced the razor head multiple times over that period.)” —Jesa Marie Calaor, senior editor

OLOV

Why we love it: A good bikini trimmer can kind of feel like a unicorn—it needs to be small enough to work around all your angles, but powerful enough to tackle coarse pubic hair. And it should deliver a smooth shave without leaving your skin a red, bumpy mess. OLOV’s Electric Body Hair Trimmer checks all the boxes: Its ceramic blade comes with a guard that prevents painful tugging and nicks; the compact shape makes it easy to hold and maneuver; and it delivers an impressively close shave for a trimmer. OLOV’s shower-safe, one-button design keeps things simple, which we particularly appreciate in a razor for the pubic area. The trimmer rinses clean in the shower when you’re done—with no clogs in sight.
Tester feedback from commerce editor Sarah Han
“I have a very no-fuss shaving routine, so I need an equally no-fuss, beginner-friendly trimmer. There’s just one button to turn it on and off; it’s relatively compact for easy maneuvering and angling; and it comes with a dock perfect for shower storage. I get a darn-close shave down there (no awkward-length, leftover stubble!), and that's all I really care about. Ok, and the colors are pretty cute, too.” —Sarah Han, commerce editor

Bushbalm

Ulta Beauty
Why we love it: Bushbalm’s Francesca Body + Bikini Trimmer has one of the longest battery lives we’ve seen in an electric razor, going up to five hours between charges. That makes it perfect for packing, because no one wants to worry about running out juice while tidying things up in a hotel bathroom. But it’s great in its own right, too: Mona Gohara, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in Connecticut, is also a fan of the device for how well it handles the contours of the body, whether you’re smoothing down your legs, arms, butt, pits, or all of the above. The brand recommends lubricating the blade once every two weeks to keep it sharp (and the trimmer comes with its own bottle of lube for this very purpose).

Panasonic
Amazon
Why we love it: Made for the bikini area, Panasonic’s Bikini Trimmer and Shaver kills two birds with one stone: Its trimmer head does the broader weed whacking, while its foil shaver head does precision work, catching short strays that stick closely to your skin. Using both will get you the smoothest shave possible—without running the risk of winding up with ingrowns. “This device is designed specifically for delicate areas and helps reduce trauma to the skin,” says Dara Spearman, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The rounded blade edges pull less than standard straight blades, so you get an overall gentler shave. The razorhead is a little smaller than those designed for overall body hair, but that allows for more precise grooming—so it’s a worthwhile tradeoff if you’re just using this to clean up your bikini line.

Braun
Target
Why we love it: Electric razors generally cause less irritation than manual ones, but they can still be tough on sensitive skin. With its curved razorhead and rounded trimmer blades, Braun’s Silk-epil 5-160 can help keep temperamental skin in check, according to Dr. Spearman. These features help it closely hug the contours of your body, so the razor glides along without snagging. Plus, its trimmer guard and foil head help you fine-tune the length of your body hair in different areas. It also has an exfoliator attachment that snaps on over the blade, so your skin gets a good buffing: Clearing away dead skin helps you achieve a closer shave and prevents irritation, razor burn, and ingrown hairs to boot. To top off your sensitive skin-friendly shave, make sure to moisturize with a fragrance-free body cream after toweling off.

Folliculitis, a.k.a. inflamed or infected hair follicles, is a common side effect of shaving, but you can reduce your risk of developing it by using an electric razor. It “cuts the hair at a longer length than manual razors, so it is less likely to pass bacteria or fungus from one follicle to the next,” Dr. Greenfield says. That said, making the switch to electric doesn’t eliminate the risk altogether. “Folliculitis can also occur due to friction [and] improper hygiene,” Dr. Shivakumar says. Clean your razor’s head after every use to prevent bacteria buildup.
Electric razors can’t shave as closely as manual models can. That means you’ll need to shave more often than you previously did (or learn to embrace your stubble). On the flip side, that means these are better for maintenance between waxes, for which you usually need a little length for the wax to grip.
There are also a few practical tradeoffs to keep in mind: Electric razors need to be charged and cleaned regularly. And they can be more cumbersome to travel with if they don’t have a protective case or locking controls. If those details knock off a few too many convenience points for you, Dr. Shivakumar suggests looking into longer-term solutions like laser hair removal.
