Ukrainian delegation arrives in Oleshky to evacuate 527 residents to Ukrainian-controlled territory
He said he is currently speaking with local residents to assess their needs and determine what assistance they require most urgently.
"Our priority is people who need help. We are doing everything possible to support them and help everyone who needs it," the ombudsman stressed.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi said during a question-and-answer session with the government in the Ukrainian parliament that 527 residents of Russian-occupied Oleshky are planning to return to Ukrainian-controlled territory.
According to Koretskyi, preparations for the residents' return are being coordinated by the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development, the Ombudsman's Office, the Kherson Regional Military Administration, and the Ministry of Health. The agencies are coordinating their efforts around the clock.
"We plan to complete preliminary medical examinations by 2 p.m. today for those who will be leaving for Ukrainian territory. At present, there are 527 people," the prime minister said.
He also explained that, following the initial medical examinations, information about each evacuee's health would be sent to the Ministry of Health. The ministry will prepare individual medical records documenting the relevant health information.
According to Koretskyi, this will help ensure that the evacuees are received in Ukraine "as quickly and efficiently as possible."
The return route will involve transit through Belarus. Oleshky residents will first have to make a difficult journey to Belarusian territory before crossing the border and entering Ukraine.
Upon arrival in Ukrainian-controlled territory in Chernihiv region and Kyiv region, they will undergo further medical examinations and receive initial medical care. Essential supplies will also be provided, including clothing, hygiene products, and other necessities.
"After that, the people will be accommodated in various regions," the prime minister said.
According to him, once the residents of Oleshky have undergone medical examinations and received initial assistance, they will be accommodated in different regions of Ukraine.
"All the premises have already been prepared," Koretskyi assured.
Koretskyi thanked US First Lady Melania Trump for her assistance in securing the decision.
