Poland to deliver two MiG-29 fighter jets and ammunition to Ukraine in new aid package
Journalists asked the official when Ukraine would receive the fighter jets. According to Łukowski, the decision to transfer them has already been made, and the handover is expected to take place soon.
"In the near future. The decision has been made, and these two MiG-29s will be transferred," the Polish defense official emphasized.
According to media reports, the technical condition of the two aircraft differs: one fighter has reached the end of its designated service life, while the other remains airworthy.
What the new aid package will include
In addition to the two MiG-29s, Poland plans to provide Ukraine with ammunition and other weapons. In particular, the package will include:
Poland's Ministry of National Defense has officially confirmed that Warsaw is preparing a new military aid package for Ukraine.
The ministry explained that the package's scope will be determined based on Poland's national security needs and the capabilities of the Polish Armed Forces. These capabilities are assessed, among others, by the Chief of the General Staff.
The Polish defence ministry also noted that aid to Ukraine may include military equipment being decommissioned by the Polish Armed Forces as it reaches the end of its service life.
Although such equipment will no longer be used by the Polish military, it may still be useful to Ukraine. Transferring this equipment is one of the planned forms of military assistance.
At the same time, Poland's Ministry of National Defence declined to disclose the full list of weapons and equipment to be included in the new package, explaining that the information is confidential.
As a reminder, Poland recently denied that it had suspended the transfer of a large military aid package to Ukraine in response to the Lviv Regional Council's decision to declare 2027 the Year of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA).
What is known about the transfer of MiG-29 fighter jets
As Rubryka previously reported, Poland held talks with Ukraine on transferring decommissioned MiG-29 fighter jetsbecause they had reached the end of their service life and there were no prospects for further modernisation. However, no final decision had been made at the time. The two sides were also discussing granting Warsaw access to selected drone and missile technologies as part of a reciprocal arrangement.
In December 2025, Polish Deputy Defence Minister Cezary Tomczyk also said that Warsaw planned to transfer six to eight MiG-29 fighter jets out of the 14 in its fleet to Kyiv. The aircraft were expected to be decommissioned by the end of 2025.
However, on June 17, 2026, Polish Deputy Defence Minister Paweł Zalewski said that Ukraine was not interested in receiving the MiG-29s. According to him, Ukraine wanted the aircraft to meet more modern combat requirements, while Poland was unwilling to cover the costs of upgrading them.
On June 30, Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said that Warsaw would not transfer MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine, claiming that Kyiv had failed to fulfil previous agreements on cooperation in drone technology.
However, the minister later announced progress towards an agreement under which Ukraine would receive Polish MiG-29 fighter jets in exchange for supplying Poland with Ukrainian drones.
Kosiniak-Kamysz also noted that Poland could help Ukraine modernise its MiG-29 fighter jets.
