Solutions to win: New Ukrainian interceptor drone shoots down two Geran-5 jet-powered drones heading for Kyiv

Russian forces use Geran-5 jet-powered drones to launch attacks across Ukraine. Countering these fast targets requires interception capabilities that can neutralize them before they reach urban areas.

A Ukrainian team of military personnel and engineers developed a new interceptor drone.

Lasar's Group crews conducted the initial combat tests. Within days, they shot down two Russian Geran-5 jet-powered drones heading for Kyiv.

According to Fedorov, video footage of these engagements demonstrates the first confirmed instances of the new interceptor destroying such targets. Only a month passed from the start of development to the first confirmed shootdowns.

As Fedorov explained, the interceptor's high speed enables it to strike jet drones before they reach the city. However, he did not disclose specific technical characteristics of the new unmanned aerial vehicle or the precise mechanics of the interception.

The team is currently refining the technology and scaling up production.

The next goal is to make the drone fully autonomous, enabling it to detect and intercept Russian unmanned aerial vehicles without operator intervention.

Developers also plan to scale up the interceptor's combat deployment to protect more Ukrainian cities.

The jet interceptor is just one of the team's projects. Fedorov reported that he and his colleagues continue to work in Ukraine, now operating in the private sector. They combine:

According to him, the team is already developing several other products designed to secure the skies and support frontline needs.

Background

It should be noted that Ukraine already utilizes "Bars" interceptor drones to counter jet-powered Shaheds. During one of their combat deployments, these systems demonstrated 100% effectiveness, and production scaling is currently underway. He also reported that hundreds of large-caliber turrets were available, designed to counter jet-powered UAVs.

Additionally, Ukraine has begun combat testing the first jet-powered interceptor drones intended to destroy Russian jet-engine Shaheds. One of the new Ukrainian devices can reach speeds exceeding 600 km/h.

Furthermore, Ukrainian defense company Phantom Defenсe announced the "Mangal" FPV drone interceptor for the first time. The presentation took place at the annual IT Arena technology conference in Lviv.
