Russia And China’s Role In The Iran War Was Limited To Technological And Intelligence Support — Expert
Kemal Kısa, founder of the “Policy and Strategy” analytical platform, believes that in the Iran war, Russia and China’s role may have consisted of supporting Tehran “behind the scenes,” particularly in the technological and intelligence spheres.
The Turkish international relations expert expressed this view in comments to an Ukrinform correspondent.
“Russia certainly supported Iran in this war, but everyone expected much more active support from Russia and China. Of course, such countries, especially China, are not the kind that actively support someone in a war with their armed forces, they’ve never actively taken part that way,” Kısa said.
Speaking about Russia and China’s role, he linked it in particular to technological support and the precision of Iranian strikes. According to him, this also concerns possible use of satellite intelligence support.
“It’s been said that the technologies ensuring missile precision, Iran received from Russia and China. In addition, I think Russia is also providing intelligence support,” the expert noted.
At the same time, he drew attention to a shift in Tehran’s strategy, which abandoned focusing on direct strikes on Israel, which previously, due to weaker technological capabilities, weren’t precise enough.
“In this war, Iran employed a smarter strategy. Instead of directly attacking Israel, it began attacking countries acting together with America and Israel,” Kısa noted.
He clarified that this concerns the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and other Arab countries, where targets included American energy facilities, military bases, and other sites linked to the US and Israel.
As earlier reported, China and Russia vetoed a UN Security Council resolution on extending the mandate of an independent panel of experts monitoring compliance with international sanctions against Iran, on the grounds that all UN measures were lifted under the 2015 nuclear agreement with Tehran.
