Ukraine Carries Out Major Strike on Russian Naval Base in Novorossiysk

Ukraine’s Defense Forces carried out a major overnight operation targeting the Russian naval base in Novorossiysk, on the Black Sea, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, UATV English reports.

According to Zelenskyy, the operation targeted what he described as Russia’s last major naval stronghold in the Black Sea, located more than 300 kilometers from the front line.

“Tonight, Ukraine’s Defense Forces carried out a unique operation to strike the naval base in Novorossiysk — the last major stronghold of the Russian fleet in the Black Sea, more than 300 kilometers from the front line,” Zelenskyy said.

The operation involved jet-powered drones, missiles and unmanned surface vessels. Ukrainian forces confirmed hits on several important facilities inside the port.

“Our jet-powered Palianytsia drones, Neptune missiles and unmanned maritime systems accurately struck designated targets. Hits were confirmed on air defense positions, berths and maritime port infrastructure,” Zelenskyy said.

The president stressed that Russia’s Black Sea Fleet and the infrastructure supporting it will remain vulnerable to Ukrainian strikes as long as Russia continues its aggression against Ukraine.

“Thanks to the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine and our intelligence services for their precision and good results. The occupation fleet and all the infrastructure supporting it will not be safe as long as Russian aggression continues,” Zelenskyy said.

He added that the war must be brought to an end and that diplomatic proposals remain on the table.

The strike comes shortly after Ukrainian forces carried out a long-range attack on the Orsknefteorgsintez oil refinery in Russia’s Orenburg region. The facility is one of the largest oil refineries in the region, with an annual processing capacity of approximately 6 million tons of crude oil.
