Russian forces attack Kyiv with missiles and drones, injuring over 25 and causing ammonia leak
The military issued the first warnings about the threat at around 00:20. According to monitoring resources, Russian forces used Iskander missiles, S-400 missiles, North Korean KN-23 missiles, and Zircon missiles.
After the missile strike, the enemy also launched jet-powered attack drones toward the capital. At the same time, Klychko reported that air defense forces were operating.
"Kyiv and the region are under ballistic attack. More missiles are heading for the city," the message said.
As a result of the attack, damage and fires were recorded in several districts of the capital at once:
In the Sviatoshynskyi district, a fire broke out in a warehouse belonging to one of the stores. In the Desnianskyi district, two non-residential buildings caught fire.
In the Holosiivskyi district, a missile destroyed a one-story warehouse building. Rescuers pulled two injured people from under the rubble. Four people are known to have been injured, and two of them were hospitalized.
In addition, the strike on a non-residential area caused an ammonia leak. Specialists from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine shut off the valve and said there was no threat to the population.
Also in the Holosiivskyi district, a private residential building was destroyed, and people may have remained trapped under the rubble.
According to the city authorities, one woman was killed in Kyiv. As of this morning, the number of injured had risen to 24. Fifteen people were hospitalized, and four are in serious condition.
An ambulance was also damaged during repeated explosions.
"At one of the locations, an ambulance was damaged as a result of repeated explosions. The driver was injured," Klychko reported.
After the shelling, thick smoke hung over Kyiv, and monitoring services recorded worsening air quality due to increased particulate matter concentrations.
Later, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that rescuers had extinguished all fires caused by the Russian strike in the Obolonskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Holosiivskyi, and Desnianskyi districts of the city. Emergency workers continued to deal with the aftermath of the Russian attack.
Background
It should be noted that as a result of Russia's nighttime ballistic attack on Kyiv on August 1, residential and non-residential buildings in five districts of the capital were damaged and destroyed. Nine people are known to have been killed, and more than 30 people were injured, including four children.
