Orbán insists: no unblocking of €90bn for Ukraine until Druzhba oil flows start again
Hungary will not unblock any decision favourable to Ukraine until the flow of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline is restored.
As reported by European Pravda's correspondent in Brussels, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's position remains unchanged: first oil, then money.
"The Hungarian position is very simple. We are ready to support Ukraine when we get our oil which is blocked by them," Orbán said before the start of the European Council meeting.
He stressed that until the operation of Druzhba is restored, there will be "no decision which is favorable for Ukraine".
"We are waiting for the oil. Everything else is just a fairytale. So, we believe only facts. Oil must arrive in Hungary. [...] Till then, we cannot support any pro-Ukrainian proposal," the Hungarian prime minister reiterated.
Orbán has previously stated on several occasions that Budapest has not changed its position on providing Ukraine with €90 billion from the EU – this will be possible only when oil supplies through Druzhba are restored.
It should be noted that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy promised in a letter to EU leaders that he would restore transit through the Druzhba oil pipeline in about a month and a half.
On 18 March, a group of EU experts wanted to visit the site where the Druzhba oil pipeline was struck in Ukraine in order to assess the damage and the extent of the work needed to restore its operation.
However, Ukraine has so far not allowed European experts access to Druzhba because of security issues.
